Recently UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development) published the World Investment Report 2012 “Towards a New Generation of Investment Policies “, where data on Italian companies investing abroad and their foreign counterparts are available.
Currently 7,500 Italian companies invest abroad, over 27,000 affiliated companies employ over 1,5 million employees with a turnover of more than 565 million euros.
Wholesales sector is the most important one , with over 55% of market share, followed by mining and manufacturing industries with 25% of market share, services sector settles at 12% and infrastructure and construction firms at 7%.
Apparently the global crisis had a lower impact than expected: abroad the number of employees even increased.
