Italian food conquering Asia


We all know that Italian food industry is worldwide appreciated and Asia is a potential market: confirmation comes from the massive presence of Italian companies to Thaifex, international exhibition of food and beverage in Bangkok, which took place last month.

Asia is a fast-growing market with over 600 million consumers and from 2015 there will be a single market, with no barriers, of ten countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Burma and Cambodia.

Participating to this market is a priority for Italian companies, as confirmed by Jilbert Toomassian, CEO of Caravella Fine Food: “This is one of the future markets we can’t miss. Results are excellent. In about a week we established hundreds of important contacts with all Asian countries, but also with China, Japan and Korea “.

Today the Asian market is still very low (25 billion) due to many cultural differences especially in terms of food habits, but it’s growing with double digits year after year, especially in Thailand, Japan, Korea, India and Hong Kong.

Hence the interest of Italian food companies, induced by the results obtained by other European countries, France in the first place, which controls 52% of Chinese wine market, compared with 6% covered by Italy.
